IED 70th anniversary at St James’s Palace

PDD’s Technical Director, Graham Lacy demonstrated the Ocean Signal AIS Man Overboard device to Prince Philip at the 70th anniversary of the Institution of Engineering designers (IED) at St James’s Palace.

As a patron of the institution, Prince Philip was interested to see recent work from its members, and as a keen sailor he was fascinated by the award-winning Ocean Signal product which had recently saved its first life.

This event also marked the first time that the IED bestowed the professional qualification of Chartered Technological Product Designer (CTPD). Alongside Chartered Engineer (CEng), the IED has been empowered to award the CTPD since receiving its Royal Charter in 2012. (Graham, an IED fellow, award and medal-winner has served on the IED council for 9 years.)
